Club meeting — Society for Community Organization

A total of 11 Club members attended the first regular lunch meeting in 2023. Thanks to ex-Rotarian Ann Coco, a new potential member Summly Lee was introduced to our Club. Summly is a Barrister-at-Law by profession. We also have Miss Wong Ka Man (guest of Charter President Patrick) joining us for the second time. Guest Speaker was Miss Si from Society for Community Organization (“SoCo”), who shared with us the topic of poverty and housing inequality in Hong Kong. Miss Si of Society for Community Organization (SoCo) gave us a brief introductionof SoCo. Founded in 1971, SoCo serves the underprivileged. SoCo also undertakes original social policy research, lobbies Hong Kong decision making bodies and organizes direct action events. According to their research, as of 2020 Hong Kong has a very high poverty rate especially amongst children (27%) and elderly in poverty (45%) before policy intervention. Area 3 has been working closely with SoCo on a regular basis, visiting cage homes and sub-divided flats and delivering protection gears/food/food voucher to the needy since this past Rotary Year. Rotary x SoCo Thanksgiving Night

On September 4, President Eliza attended Rotary x SoCo Services Thanksgiving Night for Rotary COVID Soldiers at Haw Par Mansion. It was a service project participated by most of the clubs in Area 3. Our Club will be joining this Rotary Year to distributing goodies bags to individuals living in cage homes, partitions apartments, bed space and other unpalatable homes families. CPR/AED Education Project Launch Ceremony

On September 28, Past President Grace Yen attended the Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) / Automatic External Defibrillation (AED) Education Project 2019-2020 Launch Ceremony at Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Headquarters. The project, organized by our Area 3 friends from Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northeast, is sponsored by our Club. As part of our sponsorship, 20 of our Interactors and their teachers shall have the opportunity to learn basic CPR/AED skills. Past President Grace collected a certificate of appreciation from our District Governor Wilson Cheng and President Heidi Lee of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northeast, the organizer of the Project.
