On August 24, our Club met for the fourth time in this Rotary Year. Our speaker talked about U.S. China relations and what the future holds. Meanwhile, we had quite a number of visitors: we welcomed back Past District Governor YC Ho who yearned to join our meeting after years of absence due to Covid-19; Immediate Past District Governor Norman Lee, who came specifically to thank Past President Antonio and Pat for making a significant donation to The Rotary Foundation at the tail end of this past Rotary Year; Helen and Natalie from our service partner Yuk Chi Resource Centre; and Crystal Lee, former tutor and Rotaract Advisor of our Rotaract Club of HKU Lap Chee College International.
On July 27, our Club met for lunch at Regal Hongkong Hotel. Our newest member Rotarian Wong Ka Man gave us a very informative vocational talk on insurance and actuarial science. Charter President Patrick also revealed a number of high-level insurance industry strategies. We would love to have Charter President Patrick to give us a separate talk on this!
District Installation was held on July 8, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Presidential Collar was ceremoniously passed on by Immediate Past President Eliza to President Jason.
With the generosity of our District, the “Rotary Hong Kong Vocational Scholarship” has been established to provide financial assistance for VTC needy students, who care for the community and show leadership potential, to progress from Diploma and Bachelor degreeprogramme, and nurture aspiring vocational and professional talent with moral character and a positive attitude for contributing to the industries and society. Charter President Patrick and Past President Antonio attended the Rotary HK Vocational Scholarship Awardees Sharing Sessionon May 12.
A new Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is born! RCC of Patrick SC Poon Amity College!The inaugural ceremony was hosted at the Patrick SC Poon Amity College. The ceremony was attended by District Governor Norman, Charter President Patrick, President Eliza, Immediate Past President Sam, Past President Grace, Rotarian Fei and Rotarian Ka Man from Rotary side together with Master Thomas Man and his senior team, and of course the RCC members. RCC President Simon shared their 2023/24 activity plan to us with the upcoming elderly service on May 29! We look forward to their services to the local community with Rotary’s mottoes Service Above Self and One Profit Most Who Serve the Best!
Our Club regular lunch meeting was held at Regal Hong Kong Hotel on April 27. Rtnnes. Wendy and Sara also attended the meeting; Rtnne. Wendy said she was there specifically to say hello to our Treasurer Past President MK, who has been continuing his rehabilitation. Before our speaker program, President Eliza welcomed back those who have been traveling abroad for the past few weeks. President Eliza also summarized a number of Club and District events. Past President Grace recounted a fantastic evening at Paul Harris Birthday Dinner: she credited Past President Angela for chairing the Organizing Committee, and Past District Governor Belinda and her company for sponsoring the event. President Elect Jason reported that he attended District Grant Management Seminar as well as the prize-giving ceremony of Island Scouts Virtual Walkathon. Led by Past President WT, members also sang happy birthday to two birthday boys and girls: Past District Governor Belinda and President Elect Jason. On 19 April, District Governor Norman Lee and the District Foundation Committee Chair Past District Governor Belinda Yeung co-hosted a special event to celebrate Paul Harris 155th Birthday, and to show appreciation to Major Donors, members from the Bequest Society and Paul Harris Society. The Dinner sponsored by the Regala SkyCity Hotel was held at its state-of-the-art Ballroom. Besides Past District Governor Belinda, other Rotarians from Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour also joined the Dinner; including Arch Klumph Society members Charter President Patrick Poon, Mrs Wendy Poon and Immediate Past President Sam Poon, and Major Donor Past President WT Wong. Others include Past President Angela Hui who was Chair of the Organizing Committee, while Past Presidents Grace Yen and Dora Liu were members of the Organizing Committee.The night was spent under lots of fun and entertainment. District Governor Norman sang “Imagine Rotary” and help raised funds for the District Foundation. Our own Charter President Patrick succeed in auctioning a limited edition painting by artist Darren Jones, who is the brother of the Rotary International President Jennifer Jones.
Charter President Patrick, Immediate Past President Sam and Past President Grace attended the Lap Chee College International ‘s *Stay Connected – Yum Cha with Elders * at the College Hall, Jockey Club Student Village III. A group of 80 elders from Aberdeen was invited to the college for Dim Sum lunch and interesting student performances. LCCI Rotaractors would like to build the interaction with the elders and help forge a caring community and raise the awareness on their daily struggles. During the lunch, CP Patrick was awarded the Certificate of Appreciation for his extraordinary dedication by participating in the charity event.
President Eliza and Charter President Patrick attended the Lap-Chee College High Table Dinner at the 2/F College Hall, HKU Jockey Club Student Village III in Kennedy Town. The Guest-of-Honor was Professor Lap-Chee TSUI. This High Table Dinner was a longstanding and proud tradition of Lap-Chee College. There was about 400 undergraduate and postgraduate students with different backgrounds, comprising local, mainland and international students attended the High Table Dinner. President Eliza met some of our Rotaractors, including Andrea Komcuep Leoue who came to our club in July 2022 and shared her growing and learning experiences with Rotary/Rotaract.
A team of 11 including President Eliza; Charter President Patrick, his son Charles and grandson Derek; Past President Kay and grand daughter Celeste; Past Presidents Samuel, Lily and Mark; President Elect Jason; and ex-Rotary Ann Coco helped to deliver hot meals to elderly and to register the next batch of eligible elderly at Holy Cafe Training Centre. President Elect Jason and Past President Mark home delivered hot meals toan elderly at So Uk Estate who were unable to walk to Holy Cafe. Thereafter, some of us cooled down by having a laughter-filled fellowship afternoon tea at Holy Cafe’s new venue.
