Club meeting — Carbon Neutrality

On September 8, our Club conducted our regular meeting during dinner time. A total of 16 club members together with 5 Rotary Anns (Pat, Amy, Grace, Rita and Coco) attended. In addition, Mr. Dennis Wu attended as speaker, while Assistant Governor Brian Ho and Deputy Assistant Governor Betty Chiu attended as part of their official business. Rotarian Heiwai did a great job in his first time as Duty Rotarian. Assistant Governor Brian spent about 20 minutes in updating the upcoming District activities, Rotary Student Service Ambassador Program, Digital Transformation including the update of member data in Optitable, measure our carbon footprint aiming to achieveEvery Rotarian Carbon Zero promoted by Preserve Planet Earth Committee as well as preparing for District Governor Visit details covering membership, foundation, digital transformation, community service, public image, vocational/youth and health services. DAG Betty also shared with us the Pandemic Relief Project working with SoCo in distributing anti-pandemic packages and goodies bags to the underprivileged. Currently there was 7 Rotary Clubs in Area 3 jointed including our Club. What followed was a fantastic speaker program arranged by Rotarian Fei. Mid-Autumn service with SoCo

President Eliza joined President Rico Fung of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East and other Island East Club members for a fellowship and a trial service helping SoCo (⾹港社區組織協會) to distribute Mid-Autumn goodies bags and supermarket cash coupons to the partitions apartments and cage homes families in Sham Shui Po. Deputy Assistant Governors Waiyi Tang and Betty Chiu joined the team as well. The Supermarket Cash coupon (9900 HKD in total) was donated by our mother club. Some attendees went to the Humanity in COVID exhibition – Photo exhibition and Installation art of grassroots life under the pandemic which was few blocks away from the SoCo Shum Shui Po Office. Service project started at 8.30 p.m. and finished by 10.15 p.m.

Rotary x SoCo Thanksgiving Night

On September 4, President Eliza attended Rotary x SoCo Services Thanksgiving Night for Rotary COVID Soldiers at Haw Par Mansion. It was a service project participated by most of the clubs in Area 3. Our Club will be joining this Rotary Year to distributing goodies bags to individuals living in cage homes, partitions apartments, bed space and other unpalatable homes families. The activity is organized by Society for CommunityOrganization (SoCo).

District Membership Seminar

President Eliza and Past President Webster (Membership Director) attended the District Membership Seminar, which was a very informative and inspiring one. The Seminar focuses on the “Six Rockets” to grow our membership: Readmission Rotarians, Rotaract Club, Corporate members, Chambers of Commerce and Toastmasters, Satellite Clubs and Rotary Alumni.

Club meeting — Chinese Tea

On August 25, our Club conducted our regular meeting on Zoom, due to tropical storm Ma-On. The Zoom meeting was well attended. Our speaker of the day was Miss Tsai-yueh Chen (陳采⽉⼩姐), who was introduced to us by Rotarian Fei. Originally from Taiwan, Miss Chen is engaged in cultural arts education, focusing on promotion of tea culture and lifestyle. She lectured in many higher education institutions in Hong Kong and established a non-profit organization, 《茶味⼩集》, using tea as a central theme to offer lifestyle programs, lectures, cultural exchange, and an education platformfor those who want to learn how to appreciate tea. You can find more information about《茶味⼩集》here. Miss Chen began by asking club members a few questions. Do you appreciate tea drinking? Do you demand certain qualities in your tea selections? How often do you encounter tea in your daily lives? Do you invest in teas? By asking simple questions, Miss Chen demonstrated the large scope of tea as a speaking topic. In this talk, Miss Chen focused on the origins of tea in Hong Kong 《香江茶「道」》. The tea trade is driven by the market economy, labor needs and is historically tied to colonialism. President Eliza and Past President WT attended the Rotary Behind Imagination Concert at Youth Square Y – Platform at Chai Wan. This event was co-organized by Rotary Club of Abacus HK, Rotary Club of Metropolitan Hong Kong and Rotary Club of New Territories. All surplus funds are donated to The Rotary Foundation for community services use.

For the second time this Rotary Year, we helped out at Holy Cafe, packing and delivering hot meals to the elderly on a hot summer day!
