On April 10, our Club met for the 19th time in this Rotary Year. We had a full agenda — lots of reporting from President David on events in the past few weeks. President David also promoted various future events, including District Learning Assembly, District Conference, Anniversary Dinner of Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen etc. Our speaker was President Nominee Donald Mak of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northwest. He talked about teaching wing chun, a form of southern Chinese martial art popularized in part by Bruce Lee and Donnie Yen, sub-Saharan countries of Mozambique, Eswatini and Lesotho. His mission was to give hope to Africans by enhancing self-defense, physical, mental, and spiritual development. He also aimed to prepare participants for a globalized future with China as their potential pivot point out of poverty.
On April 1, President David led a strong delegation with Past President MK, Past President WT, Past President Eliza, and Immediate Past President Jason to attend the Club Installation of our sister Club, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast. On March 22, some of us went on a boat ride and seafood lunch, while others stayed put and got busy shopping. In the evening, we hosted our Club’s 38th Anniversary Dinner, featuring Past President Ricky and Rotarian Ka Man as MC. We also had the privilege of inducting our newest member, Joanna Lai, with Governor Nigel Lo, Past District Governor Eric Chak (District Membership Committee Chair) and Charter President Patrick in attendance. Her classification is Legal. On March 23, some of us hiked up the south side, and made a detour to the 10-storey mural unveiled by Rotary Club of Hong Kong South back in December. Congratulations to Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour, to our newest member Rotarian Joanna, and to all who made time for a full…
