Taiwan Visit 2026 Part 2

From May 7 to 10, members of our Club visited Taiwan to attend the 28th Anniversary Party of Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen. See Part 1 here. Past Presidents Grace, WT, Dora, Ricky, Mark and Jason, together with Past President Jerry of Rotary Club of Tsim Sha Tsui, joined the trip for this special occasion. On May 8, our Club delegation was warmly and graciously welcomed at the airport, setting the tone for a memorable visit. Our sister club then treated members to a delicious lunch, followed by a vocational visit to a cookery factory, offering an interesting glimpse into local industry and craftsmanship. In the evening, our members attended a most splendid anniversary dinner, where our two Clubs renewed our sister club agreement with District Governor Sunny Huang (of District 3481) as witness. The following day, members enjoyed a teppanyaki fellowship lunch, further strengthening bonds through shared experiences. During our visit, Past President Grace and Past President Jerry also had the opportunity to have lunch with Past Rotary International President Gary Huang and Corinna. Past President Jerry was Club President of his Club when Gary was Governor of our District.

39th Anniversary Party

On March 21, many members of our Club gathered at Royal Pacific Hotel to celebrate our Club’s 39th Anniversary, a joyful occasion filled with fellowship and celebration. The evening was honored by the presence of representatives from Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen, as well as our daughter Club, Rotary E-Club of Lantau, and granddaughter Club, Rotary Club of Neoteric Hong Kong. Assistant Governor Wilson also attended in support, alongside our Honorary Member Vivien, adding to the warmth and significance of the celebration. The dinner was lively and memorable, with members and visiting Rotarians enjoying the opportunity to reconnect and strengthen friendships. Following the formal program, many continued the celebrations with after-party drinks, extending the spirit of fellowship late into the evening.

Visit to Yuk Chi Resource Centre

On March 21, many members of our Club, together with members from our sister clubs, visited Yuk Chi Resource Centre in Tuen Mun for a meaningful service engagement. The visit was to witness the fruits of the Rotary Global Grant project titled “Professional Therapy Services for Special Educational Need Early Childhood,” an initiative aimed at supporting young children with special educational needs through professional therapy services. The project was made possible with the strong support of our sister clubs, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen, reflecting the power of international collaboration within Rotary. During the visit, participants gained a deeper understanding of the Centre’s work and the positive impact of early intervention on children and their families. The experience was both insightful and inspiring, reinforcing our Club’s shared commitment to service and to creating lasting change in the community.

Welcoming our Sister Club Visitors

On March 20, many members of our Club warmly welcomed our sister club visitors with great enthusiasm and care, making special arrangements to greet them at the airport upon arrival in Hong Kong. Members made two separate trips to the airport to receive our guests, ensuring that each group was personally welcomed despite differing flight schedules. In the evening, some of the visitors enjoyed a relaxing boat cruise, taking in the beautiful harbor scenery. To accommodate arrival times, two separate welcoming dinners were also organized, allowing all guests to experience the hospitality and fellowship of our Club. The day was filled with a jolly and festive atmosphere, marked by laughter, meaningful conversations, and the renewal of long-standing friendships. It was a wonderful start to the visit, setting the tone for deeper connections and shared Rotary spirit in the run up to the next day’s Club anniversary party.

Club meeting — Wing Chun in Africa

On April 10, our Club met for the 19th time in this Rotary Year. We had a full agenda — lots of reporting from President David on events in the past few weeks. President David also promoted various future events, including District Learning Assembly, District Conference, Anniversary Dinner of Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen etc. Our speaker was President Nominee Donald Mak of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northwest. He talked about teaching wing chun, a form of southern Chinese martial art popularized in part by Bruce Lee and Donnie Yen, sub-Saharan countries of Mozambique, Eswatini and Lesotho. His mission was to give hope to Africans by enhancing self-defense, physical, mental, and spiritual development. He also aimed to prepare participants for a globalized future with China as their potential pivot point out of poverty.

38th Club Anniversary and Sister Club Reception

March 21-23 marked one of the busiest time of the year for our Club. We hosted our 38th Anniversary Dinner on March 22, and received dozens of sister club visitors from Malaysia and Taiwan. On March 21, after picking up our guests from the airport, we had a sumptuous lunch at The Fullerton Hotel. In the evening, we went on a joyous tram ride followed by a fantastic Cantonese dinner. On March 22, some of us went on a boat ride and seafood lunch, while others stayed put and got busy shopping. In the evening, we hosted our Club’s 38th Anniversary Dinner, featuring Past President Ricky and Rotarian Ka Man as MC. We also had the privilege of inducting our newest member, Joanna Lai, with Governor Nigel Lo, Past District Governor Eric Chak (District Membership Committee Chair) and Charter President Patrick in attendance. Her classification is Legal. On March 23, some of us hiked up the south side, and made a detour to the 10-storey mural unveiled by Rotary Club of Hong Kong South back in December. Visit to Sister Club Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen

As a tradition, our Sister Club Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen held their 26th Anniversary Celebration on May 2, 2024 at Taipei Garden Hotel (台北花園大酒店). We have five representatives attending including President Jason and Sara, and Past Presidents Dora, Webster and Mark. In the afternoon, our Sister Club treated us to a lunch of authentic Taiwan-cuisine at 山海樓, and after their Anniversary Celebration, we all went to karaoke for extra fun!

District Training Assembly

While President Eliza and others were in Taipei attending Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen’s 25th Anniversary Party in Taipei, Past District Governor Belinda, Past President Grace, Past President Eddie, Past President Lily, Past President Mark, President Nominee David and Rotarian Ka Man in Hong Kong attended District Training Assembly. Some ofthem were representing their respective District Committees on stage as speakersas well. Also, President Nominee David, on behalf of President Elect Jason voted for the District 3450 budget 2023/24.

Visiting Taipei Mingmen

On May 5, President Eliza, Past Presidents WT, Dora and Webster, and President Elect Jason represented our Club to attend the 25th Anniversary Celebration dinner of our sister club, Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen. All Clubs within the same Area of District 3481 joined the dinner celebration too! One of the highlights was the charity painting auction for one of the Food Banks in Taiwan.
