Club meeting — aquatic physical therapy

District Governor Norman Lee surprised us by joining our regular meeting as guest. He took time to speak about the successful rezoning of our District from Zone 9 and Zone 10 effective from July 1, 2023. In the same zone are Districts of Clubs from Singapore Malaysia, Philippines etc. He also explained the rationale behind the removal request and that it was supported by majority of Clubs in our District. District Governor Norman also took the opportunity to inform us of the election of Past President Cassy Cheng as District Governor for 2025-26. Congratulations to District Governor Nominee Designate Cassy Cheng! Professor Billy So (蘇俊⿓) was invited to speak to us about the development of Aquatic Physical Therapy in Hong Kong. Currently an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the Department of Physical Therapy, he demonstrated with scientific data supports that aquatic therapy can treat injured patients effectively and elevate the pace of recovery. Water pressure is proven to help reduce edema too. Club meeting — Governor’s Visit

District Governor Norman Lee, accompanied by Governor Elect Andy Li, Assistant Governor Brian Ho, District Secretaries Rosa Tam and Joseph Yim visited our Club on November 10, 2022. He joined our Club’s lunch meeting after his meeting withour board members. At the lunch meeting, DG made his speech. He started by telling the purpose of his visit, understanding our club’s year plan from the board members; to meet with members of the club and to deliver some key messages. He then talked about matters in different areas. In general, he asked members to rethink ‘’Service Above Self “. About the year theme “Imagine Rotary”, he reminded members Rotary International President’s ideas: to make projects bigger and more impactful; care more for members. He went on talked about several projects and matters in Rotary District 3450: “Student Ambassador Awards” – This recent project received good support from government departments. It focuses on “What we may do to help the society”. Club Installation

Club Installation was held at Regal Hong Kong Hotel on July 14. It was a hybrid affair, with Rotarians attending both a physical lunch and a virtual broadcast via Zoom. During the installation, the presidential sash was passed from Immediate Past President Sam to President Eliza, with Immediate Past District Governor Keith and District Governor Norman presiding over the ceremony. Many Rotarians, families and friends also attended the virtual broadcast, including Past District Governor Peter Pang, District Governor Elect Andy Li, District Governor Nominee Nigel Lo, Assistant Governor Brian Ho, representatives from our service partners, representatives from our Interact and Rotaract Clubs, invited guests and friends of our Club, and our esteemed sister club friends from Rotary Club of Pudu, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen. Island Scout Trail Walk 2022 Award Ceremony

A signature project of our club since 2001! District Governor Norman & his wife Isabel, President Eliza , Past President Eddie, Past President Grace and President Elect Jason attended the Island Scout Trail Walk 2022 Award Ceremony where our club was a co-organizer. Due to the pandemic, the trail walk was done on both virtual + physical format and achieved a total of 20,000 km by the scouts, their families and friends.

Club meeting — The Role of Sports in Social Development

On May 12, District Governor Keith Chow, Past District Governor Ada Cheng, Immediate Past District Governor Eric Chak and District Governor Elect Norman from District leadership joined our luncheon. From Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East, our “mother club”, President Bernard Lee, Past President William Wong, and President Elect Rico Fung joined. Other guests included District Secretary Elizabete Fong, Mr. Kevin Chuc (a former speaker) and Winnie (Past President Dora’s guest). Our Honorary Member Vivien Lau introduced our speaker, the Honorable Kenneth Fok, a member of Hong Kong Legislative Council. Kenneth’s talk on “The Role of Sports in Social Development” was an extension of his talk at the 61st District Conference in 2021. Sports is more than sports. Over the course of the last 50 years of Chinese history, sports played a role in opening China to the world. In challenging political times, it is always best to keep sports and cultural exchange open among nations. In the Q&A session we learned a bit more about Kenneth. His grandfather’s involvement in sports development in Hong Kong and China was critical to his choice of profession. 35th Anniversary

On March 26, our Club met on Zoom to celebrate our Club’s 35th Anniversary. District Governor Keith Chow, Immediate Past District Governor Eric Chak, District Governor Elect Norman Lee, District Governor Nominee Andy Li, District Governor Nominee Designate Nigel Lo, Chief District Secretary Ron Chan from the District joined our Zoom celebration. Past Club members including Douglas Hsia, Yoshie Takenaka, Kennedy Tang, Veronica DeKrey, Eddie Wong, CK Chan, Charles Lam, Patric Lee and Theresa Chan also joined. Organizing Committee Chair and President Elect Eliza, President Sam, District Governor Keith, Charter President Patrick and Past District Governor Belinda gave us opening remarks to kick off this special celebration. We also played snippets of video congratulations messages from Rotary International President Shekhar Mehta, Past Rotary International President Gary Huang, future District leaders, as well as Presidents of our sister Clubs. President Elect Eliza announced winners of the 35th anniversary photo competition. Past Presidents Ricky and Webster led us through a wonderful edition of Hong Kong Harbour ABC quiz. We particularly thank Organizing Committee Chair President Elect Eliza and the rest of the Organizing Committee for planning the original physical celebration and then this Zoom celebration.

Club visit to Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East

On November 3, several members of our Club attended Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East’s regular club meeting, thus resuming our annual tradition of visiting our beloved mother Club. President Sam led a large group consisting of Charter President Patrick, Past District Governor Belinda, Past President Grace, Immediate Past President Mark, and President Elect Eliza. President Bernard Lee and his members gave the visiting Rotarians a warm welcome. During the meeting, we learned much from the day’s speaker, Rotarian Benson Ng, who talked about anti-money laundering. While there, Past District Governor Belinda took the opportunity to promote various Rotary Foundation-related activities. President Sam, while accepting gifts from the host, invited members from mother club to attend our 35th anniversary dinner, to be held in March 2022. We thank President Bernard, his Immediate Past President Leo Yu and other members of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East for their warm hospitality and overall generosity.
