The latest Governor’s Kitchen, presented by District Public Image Committee, features Past District Governor Belinda, as well as District Governor Andy Li, Past District Governor Keith Chow and Immediate Past District Governor Norman Lee.
On August 24, our Club met for the fourth time in this Rotary Year. Our speaker talked about U.S. China relations and what the future holds. Meanwhile, we had quite a number of visitors: we welcomed back Past District Governor YC Ho who yearned to join our meeting after years of absence due to Covid-19; Immediate Past District Governor Norman Lee, who came specifically to thank Past President Antonio and Pat for making a significant donation to The Rotary Foundation at the tail end of this past Rotary Year; Helen and Natalie from our service partner Yuk Chi Resource Centre; and Crystal Lee, former tutor and Rotaract Advisor of our Rotaract Club of HKU Lap Chee College International.
A new Rotary Community Corps (RCC) is born! RCC of Patrick SC Poon Amity College!The inaugural ceremony was hosted at the Patrick SC Poon Amity College. The ceremony was attended by District Governor Norman, Charter President Patrick, President Eliza, Immediate Past President Sam, Past President Grace, Rotarian Fei and Rotarian Ka Man from Rotary side together with Master Thomas Man and his senior team, and of course the RCC members. RCC President Simon shared their 2023/24 activity plan to us with the upcoming elderly service on May 29! We look forward to their services to the local community with Rotary’s mottoes Service Above Self and One Profit Most Who Serve the Best!
On 19 April, District Governor Norman Lee and the District Foundation Committee Chair Past District Governor Belinda Yeung co-hosted a special event to celebrate Paul Harris 155th Birthday, and to show appreciation to Major Donors, members from the Bequest Society and Paul Harris Society. The Dinner sponsored by the Regala SkyCity Hotel was held at its state-of-the-art Ballroom. Besides Past District Governor Belinda, other Rotarians from Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour also joined the Dinner; including Arch Klumph Society members Charter President Patrick Poon, Mrs Wendy Poon and Immediate Past President Sam Poon, and Major Donor Past President WT Wong. Others include Past President Angela Hui who was Chair of the Organizing Committee, while Past Presidents Grace Yen and Dora Liu were members of the Organizing Committee.The night was spent under lots of fun and entertainment. District Governor Norman sang “Imagine Rotary” and help raised funds for the District Foundation. Our own Charter President Patrick succeed in auctioning a limited edition painting by artist Darren Jones, who is the brother of the Rotary International President Jennifer Jones.
On April 13, our regular lunch meeting was held at Regal Hong Kong Hotel. Because President Eliza was still traveling in Taiwan, President Elect Jason wore the Presidential Sash as acting President for the day. District Governor Norman paid an unannounced, surprise visit. Six Club members attended. Due to the low attendance, our speaker program was postponed to the coming weeks, with details to be announced soon. Many Rotarians were absent as they were either out of town or bedridden due to sickness. President Eliza (Taiwan), Past President Kay (Italy), Past President Dora (Korea), Past President Mark (New York), President Nominee David (Edinburgh) and Rotarian Tony (Shenzhen) sent their apologies from abroad. All three Rotarians (Past PresidentAntonio, Past President Mark and Rotarian Tony) who were scheduled to be on duty were out of town and unable to perform their duties. Thankfully, they found three willing replacements (Past President Webster, Immediate Past President Sam, and Rotarian Fei) who calmly reported that not much duty was needed as the meeting turned into an intimate gathering where conversation flowed freely. A relaxing and fun-filled 36th Club Anniversary party was successfully held at Regala Skycity Hotel on March 25, 2023. The party was attended by over 65 Club membersand guests. District Governor Norman Lee, District Governor Elect Andy Li, District Governor Nominee Nigel Lo, District Officers, and 20 members from our three sister clubs — Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Pudu. The highlights of event were the sister-club signing ceremony with all three sister clubs to continue our partnership to do GOOD for the community; new memberinduction for Rotarian Ka Man Wong; the pinning of new Paul Harris Fellows and multi-Paul Harris Fellows for President Eliza Ning, Past President Grace Yen, Past President Eddie Leung, Past President Webster Ng and Rotary Ann Coco. What’s more? A party of 35 Rotarians and family members joined the Lantau tour on nextday which further fostered bonding among all. Last but not least, we thank our President Elect Jason Ling for his great leadership of the dinner, and we are looking forward to our next anniversary celebration with many more Club members and friends!!
President Eliza and President Elect Jason went to the Presidents-Elect Training Seminar (PETS) II in the morning session in Alexandra Hotel before getting on a taxi to Chi Fu, Pokfulam for the Opening Ceremony of the Scout Trail Walk where Past Presidents Grace, Dora, Eddie and ex-member Past Presidents Theresa and Kennedy were there together with Yuk Chi Resources Centre’s team. Then President Elect Jason rushed back to attend the afternoon session of the PETS II. After the opening ceremony, Yuk Chi’s team together with children and parents hopped on a coach to go to the Peak. Meanwhile, President Eliza walked the steep route from Pokfulam to the Peak together with her brother and Ms. Laura Lo, one of this year’s speakers during our regular meetings and a senior scout leader. Past President Mark joined in right before the Peak walk together with President Eliza and team. District Governor Norman and his wife Isa joined the award ceremony at 4:30pm and presented Rotary Club of Hong Kong Harbour Award to the 50km walk winners. District Governor Norman Lee surprised us by joining our regular meeting as guest. He took time to speak about the successful rezoning of our District from Zone 9 and Zone 10 effective from July 1, 2023. In the same zone are Districts of Clubs from Singapore Malaysia, Philippines etc. He also explained the rationale behind the removal request and that it was supported by majority of Clubs in our District. District Governor Norman also took the opportunity to inform us of the election of Past President Cassy Cheng as District Governor for 2025-26. Congratulations to District Governor Nominee Designate Cassy Cheng! Professor Billy So (蘇俊⿓) was invited to speak to us about the development of Aquatic Physical Therapy in Hong Kong. Currently an Assistant Professor at Hong Kong Polytechnic University in the Department of Physical Therapy, he demonstrated with scientific data supports that aquatic therapy can treat injured patients effectively and elevate the pace of recovery. Water pressure is proven to help reduce edema too. He said that the ongoing studies and development in treatment technology as well as available supportive equipment have significantly further enhanced the effectiveness of aquatic therapy, a great news to those who may suffer from…
District Governor Norman Lee, accompanied by Governor Elect Andy Li, Assistant Governor Brian Ho, District Secretaries Rosa Tam and Joseph Yim visited our Club on November 10, 2022. He joined our Club’s lunch meeting after his meeting withour board members. At the lunch meeting, DG made his speech. He started by telling the purpose of his visit, understanding our club’s year plan from the board members; to meet with members of the club and to deliver some key messages. He then talked about matters in different areas. In general, he asked members to rethink ‘’Service Above Self “. About the year theme “Imagine Rotary”, he reminded members Rotary International President’s ideas: to make projects bigger and more impactful; care more for members. He went on talked about several projects and matters in Rotary District 3450: “Student Ambassador Awards” – This recent project received good support from government departments. It focuses on “What we may do to help the society”. District Governor Norman encouraged Rotarians to work more with Rotaractors. “Virtual Rotary Exchange for Youth” – This project was piloted by Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East. Club Installation was held at Regal Hong Kong Hotel on July 14. It was a hybrid affair, with Rotarians attending both a physical lunch and a virtual broadcast via Zoom. During the installation, the presidential sash was passed from Immediate Past President Sam to President Eliza, with Immediate Past District Governor Keith and District Governor Norman presiding over the ceremony. Many Rotarians, families and friends also attended the virtual broadcast, including Past District Governor Peter Pang, District Governor Elect Andy Li, District Governor Nominee Nigel Lo, Assistant Governor Brian Ho, representatives from our service partners, representatives from our Interact and Rotaract Clubs, invited guests and friends of our Club, and our esteemed sister club friends from Rotary Club of Pudu, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen.
