On February 22, our Club had its 16th regular Club meeting of the Rotary Year. We invited our very own Rotarian Sammy (區仲德師傅) to tell us about our Fortunes for 2024. Also, all our members are fortunate enough to receive gifts from 區師傅 as well as re-useable food containers from Past District Governor Belinda.
A total of 12 Club members, ex-member Past President Theresa and Charter President Patrick’s guest Wong Ka Man attended the regular lunch meeting. All ladies wore red by coincidence, while most men wore blue. Of course, our Speaker Rotarian Sammy, in his bright-red Chinese suit, presented the 2023 Year of the Rabbit feng shui to us. President Eliza would especially thank our Duty Rotarians: Charter President Patrick and President Elect Nominee David for arriving well before 12:30pm to greet members and guests!
On January 27, our last meeting before the Chinese New Year, we had a double bill: Rotarian Sammy shared with us his vision of the “Year of the Tiger”, while District Rotaractors, including District Rotaract Representative Elect Wayne (Rotaract Club of Victoria), Rotaractor Victor (Rotaract Club of HKUST) and President Elect Dennis (Rotary Club of Victoria), shared with us upcoming District Rotaract activities such as District Conference, World Rotaract Week (FF Bazaar on March 12-13) and District Service Project (a mental wellness project).
On February 25, our Club met at Regal Hong Kong Hotel for the first time in nearly 3 months after the government relaxed gathering restrictions. To ensure proper social distancing, Regal gave us a large room, with 4-person tables separated by ample spaces. The meeting began with our customary Rotary song and usual Club and District reports. Rotarian Eliza gave a quick summary of the Amity Living Water Townhall on February 22, during which President Mark, Past President Lily, President Elect Sam, and Rotarians Jason and Eliza joined. Two Rotaractors also joined remotely. President Elect Sam summarized earlier meetings with Scouts and gave updates of our upcoming collaboration with the youth group. President Elect Sam also requested us to save the date: March 25, a regular meeting date which also happens to be our Club’s anniversary date. The plan, if pandemic regulations do not tighten further, is to have a relaxed anniversary lunch gathering. President Elect Sam shall give more details closer to the date. Past President Grace described the background behind Tithe Ethical Consumption, and how our Club was nominated for and ultimately received “2020 Social Enterprise Supporter+” Award (online presser, in Chinese only), in large part due to…
On May 2, Past President WT led a team consisting of Past Presidents Grace Yen, Dora Liu, Samuel Chung, Rotarian Sammy and spouses to distribute hot meal and health supplies to the needy.
Master Sammy Au (區仲德) talked about the year of the Pig.
