Club meeting — People, Heritage and the Sea in Sok Kwu Wan

On October 8, our Club welcomed Ms. Wendy Chan, a social entrepreneur actively involved in preserving the cultural and maritime heritage of Sok Kwu Wan on Lamma Island. Wendy introduced members to her various projects in Sok Kwu Wan, including Lamma Fisherfolk’s Village, which showcases the traditions, daily lives and history of Hong Kong’s fishing communities. Through her work, she seeks to preserve the area’s unique fisherfolk culture while connecting visitors with its rich heritage and close relationship with the sea. Her sharing offered members an interesting perspective on how cultural preservation, community engagement and sustainable tourism can work together to keep local traditions alive. It was an engaging and informative lunch meeting that encouraged members to appreciate an often-overlooked part of Hong Kong’s history and the importance of passing this heritage on to future generations. During the meeting, we also welcomed back Rotarian Clive, who rejoined our Club after spending the past few years focusing on career development, social projects, and a Ph.D. We also managed to cherish the moment of unveiling of our Club’s 100% Paul Harris Fellow Club banner, received from The Rotary Foundation.
