As part of District Public Image Committee’s effort to enhance the public’s knowledge of Rotary and Rotarians, Governor’s Kitchen, a video series featuring casual conversations among Rotarians in our District, was conceived. The video series is chaired by our Past President Angela. Charter President Patrick was recently invited as a special guest in Governor’s Kitchen to share his wisdom of life.
On November 23, our Club invited Ms Wai-Wai Lui from ORBIS International to our regular meeting to share on the topic: “Fighting Avoidable Blindness in Underserved Communities.” She highlighted the distinct context and challenges faced in delivering eye care in Mongolia, China, and Bangladesh. These three countries are vastly different in terms of culture, demographic, and healthcare system. Ms. Lui talked about how Orbis utilizes community-driven intervention and advocacy to provide sustainable, people-centered eye care.
On November 18, many Club members attended Intercity Meeting 2023, including: Charter President Patrick and Wendy, Past District Governor Belinda, Past Presidents Grace, Dora, Lily, and Mark. Charter President and Wendy were recognized on stage as our District’s all-time top donors in a special recognition session presided by Rotary International President Gordon McInally and District Governor Andy Li.
On November 18, our Club participated in End Polio Walk, an event to raise awareness of polio and Rotary’s work to help to eradicate the disease. Members in attendance were: President Jason, Past District Governor Belinda, Past Presidents Grace, Mark and Sam. Past District Governor Belinda attended as Rotary Foundation Committee Chair. Our Club was recognized as a Tier 1 contributor to PolioPlus Fund in 2023-24. While being recognized on stage, Mango, President Jason’s beloved, managed to shake hands with Rotary International President Gordon McInally.
On November 15, some Club members attended The ONE Humanitarian Award Gala Dinner, held at Holiday Inn Kowloon Golden Mile. Mrs. Amy Chan of Child Development Initiative Alliance was our Club’s nominee for The ONE Hong Kong. She was announced to be the 1st runner-up of The ONE Hong Kong 2023. Congratulations to Mrs. Chan, and we thank Past Presidents Ricky and Grace for their service to the organizing committee of The ONE Humanitarian Award.
On November 13, Club Installation of Interact Club of King’s College was held on their Bonham Road campus. Members in attendance to support the Kingsians were: President Jason, Charter President Patrick, Past President Kay, Past President Mark, and Rotarian Ka Man.
On November 11, after our vocational visit to Ronald McDonald House, our service day at Holy Cafe and fellowship lunch thereafter, some members changed to more formal clothing and attended the Club Installation of Rotaract Club of HKU Lap-Chee College International, who gave us a comprehensive report of past year’s activities and an outline of what they plan to do in the coming year.
On November 11, after our visit to Ronald McDonald House, we went to Holy Cafe to assist their effort to register free-meal recipients and to distribute rice and other goodies to elderly. After the service outing, we gathered together to have an enjoyable dim-sum lunch.
On November 11, our Club started the day by visiting the new (2nd) Ronald McDonald House 麥當努叔叔之家 (close to Children Hospital) in Kwun Tong. We were fortunate to be the very last batch of pre-opening visitors before residents started moving into the House.
On November 6, our Club was delighted to take part in 4-Clans Meeting. 16 Rotary Clubs under our mother club’s genealogical umbrella joined! Guest speaker of the evening was Ms Bonnie Chiu, a Rotary Scholar who shared her experience with Rotary Scholarship! On occasion, we celebrated District Governor Andy Li’s birthday with a tailor-made birthday cake.
