On August 3, President Sam, Past President Antonio and Pat, Past Presidents Grace, Angela, Dora and CK, and Immediate Past President Mark, supported Past President Lily and Past President Patric’s Suicide Prevention Services Charity Concert – “The Familiar Strangers”. It was a lovely night of piano duets and tango music. The gift bag was also beautifully curated, containing washable masks, coffee drip bags, postcard and a well-designed program book. An early fellowship dinner was arranged by President Sam at the City Hall Chinese restaurant.
On November 14, our Club invited Ms. Annike Pong, founder of Music Children Foundation, to give an overview of Music Children Foundation, a local charity that provides free music education to underprivileged kids in Hong Kong. Music Children Foundation (”MCF”)’s vision is simple: to introduce music to underprivileged children at an early age and to cultivate their core values towards building a harmonious society. Ms. Pong believes that music education does not end with merely perfecting musical senses and techniques, but building self-confidence, enhancing communication skills, and fostering a life-long interest in the arts through the learning of music. Ms. Pong also cites how music has transformed the lives of not only children but families: as parents become volunteers in MCF events, they spend more time with their children. Parents also get to understand their children more through the new common language of music.
On October 10, our Club invited Ms. Angel Cheng, founder of Build A Music School (B.A.M.S), to give an overview of the project. B.A.M.S. is a non-profit project aimed to partner with the local community to build a music school in Keng Tung, in the Golden Triangle area of Myanmar. Through music training, B.A.M.S. aims to bring the joy of music to the impoverished children of the area. Ms. Angel Cheng traced her path from a Christian missionary brought to the region to share the words of Gospel, to a music educator and community developer aimed to bring the joy of music to a region ravaged by drugs and warlords.
On September 14, Club members went to watch “童sing童戲 MUSIC Stand by Me”, a musical staged and performed by Music Children Foundation, our Club’s new service partner.
