Thanks to Past President Webster, we enjoyed a sumptuous dinner at Chez Moi in Causeway Bay. It was our Club’s first fellowship dinner in this Rotary Year. On occasion, we celebrated the August birthday boys and girls.
President Eliza and Past President Webster (Membership Director) attended the District Membership Seminar, which was a very informative and inspiring one. The Seminar focuses on the “Six Rockets” to grow our membership: Readmission Rotarians, Rotaract Club, Corporate members, Chambers of Commerce and Toastmasters, Satellite Clubs and Rotary Alumni.
On August 25, our Club conducted our regular meeting on Zoom, due to tropical storm Ma-On. The Zoom meeting was well attended. Our speaker of the day was Miss Tsai-yueh Chen (陳采⽉⼩姐), who was introduced to us by Rotarian Fei. Originally from Taiwan, Miss Chen is engaged in cultural arts education, focusing on promotion of tea culture and lifestyle. She lectured in many higher education institutions in Hong Kong and established a non-profit organization, 《茶味⼩集》, using tea as a central theme to offer lifestyle programs, lectures, cultural exchange, and an education platformfor those who want to learn how to appreciate tea. You can find more information about《茶味⼩集》here. Miss Chen began by asking club members a few questions. Do you appreciate tea drinking? Do you demand certain qualities in your tea selections? How often do you encounter tea in your daily lives? Do you invest in teas? By asking simple questions, Miss Chen demonstrated the large scope of tea as a speaking topic. President Eliza and Past President WT attended the Rotary Behind Imagination Concert at Youth Square Y – Platform at Chai Wan. This event was co-organized by Rotary Club of Abacus HK, Rotary Club of Metropolitan Hong Kong and Rotary Club of New Territories. All surplus funds are donated to The Rotary Foundation for community services use.
For the second time this Rotary Year, we helped out at Holy Cafe, packing and delivering hot meals to the elderly on a hot summer day! Club members Past President Samuel & Amy, Past President WT & Kelly, Past President Grace, Past President Angela, Past President Dora, Past President Mark, and Coco participated this meaningful event.
In the 3rd regular meeting of the Rotary Year, our club invited our friends from the Rotaract Club of HKU Lap-Chee College International (“RAC HKU LCCI”) to be our speakers. President Thomas, Andrea Komguep Leoue (International Service), Subaita Mahadia (External Vice President) and Crystal Lee (Club Advisor) joined our meeting. Charter President Patrick brought his grandson, Derek, as his guest. After singing the Rotary Song, President Eliza invited Immediate Past President Sam to pin Rotarian Tony. Previously, Rotarian Tony was inducted during a Zoom meeting on January 13, 2022. We then sang “Happy Birthday” to Past President Samuel Chung, whose birthday was on August 11. The speaker program included two parts: President Thomas’ Year Plan and Rotaractor Andrea’s talk “From Paris to Hong Kong.” President Thomas began by reviewing a past activities. Rotaractors in December 2021 conducted a Christmas service day and in April 2022 there was the Get Creative! Handcraft workshop, both programs focused on interacting with ethnic minorities children. Rotaractors from Rotaract Club of HKU Lap Chi College International were joined by Past President Grace, Rotarian David, Rtnne. Coco, and Immediate Past President Sam’s family in an outing at Holy Cafe to help to pack and deliver hot meals to the elderly.
