March 21-23 marked one of the busiest time of the year for our Club. We hosted our 38th Anniversary Dinner on March 22, and received dozens of sister club visitors from Malaysia and Taiwan. On March 21, after picking up our guests from the airport, we had a sumptuous lunch at The Fullerton Hotel. In the evening, we went on a joyous tram ride followed by a fantastic Cantonese dinner. On March 22, some of us went on a boat ride and seafood lunch, while others stayed put and got busy shopping. In the evening, we hosted our Club’s 38th Anniversary Dinner, featuring Past President Ricky and Rotarian Ka Man as MC. We also had the privilege of inducting our newest member, Joanna Lai, with Governor Nigel Lo, Past District Governor Eric Chak (District Membership Committee Chair) and Charter President Patrick in attendance. Her classification is Legal. On March 23, some of us hiked up the south side, and made a detour to the 10-storey mural unveiled by Rotary Club of Hong Kong South back in December. On November 19, President David attended The ONE Gala Dinner together with Past Presidents Grace, WT, Ricky and Mark. Our Club is a sponsor of The ONE Humanitarian Award.
On September 1, members visited Home Care for Girls, our long-term service partner. In attendance included President David, Past Presidents Grace, Angela, Ricky and Sam, and Immediate Past President Jason. Several friends also attended.
On August 20, our Club hosted a fellowship dinner filled with laughter. We also celebrated Past District Governor Belinda’s retirement, birthdays of August birthday boys and girls, and Boris’ matriculation in the HKU MBBS program.
On May 18, District Conference was held at Regala Skycity Hotel. Many of our members attended District’s most important event of the year: President Jason, Past District Governor Belinda, Past Presidents WT, Grace, Dora, Ricky, and Mark, and Immediate Past President Eliza. One of the plenary keynote speakers, Mr Michael Wong Wai-lun, GBS, JP, Deputy Financial Secretary of the HKSAR Government, was a past member of our Club. Many members were involved in various aspects of the Conference, including Past President Dora, who was a floor manager, and Past President Grace, who was an MC during Foundation Lunch.
This year we have injected a bit more new ideas to our celebration week, by taking all our members and sister clubs to Macau for a weekend retreat, authentic Portuguese cuisine, and a tour around Macau city. District Governor Andy and Jane, District Governor Elect Nigel and Flora and little Raphael, and some Rotarians from Macau have joined our banquet on March 23 too. We wish to thank our incredible Organizing Committee,including President Elect David, Past President Eddie, Past President Grace, Past President Dora, Past President Ricky, Past President Lily, Past President Mark, Past President Sam P, and Rotarian Ka Man, and our good friend Past President Elizabete Fong of Rotary Club of Macau for making it such an enjoyable get-together.
On November 15, some Club members attended The ONE Humanitarian Award Gala Dinner, held at Holiday Inn Kowloon Golden Mile. Mrs. Amy Chan of Child Development Initiative Alliance was our Club’s nominee for The ONE Hong Kong. She was announced to be the 1st runner-up of The ONE Hong Kong 2023. Congratulations to Mrs. Chan, and we thank Past Presidents Ricky and Grace for their service to the organizing committee of The ONE Humanitarian Award.
On August 21, our Club gathered together at New Life, a social enterprise restaurant in Wanchai for an evening of good food, great conversation, and lots of singing! Thanks to Past President Ricky, everyone got to hold a microphone and show off their vocal skills. We also welcomed Ariel Chu, a visitor originally from Taiwan who is now working in Hong Kong.
District Installation was held on July 8, at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Presidential Collar was ceremoniously passed on by Immediate Past President Eliza to President Jason.
The 12th Board Meeting of Rotary Year 2022-23 was held at Holy Cafe, our long-term service partner, on June 19. Mrs Maria Sung, proprietor and community volunteer extraordinaire of Holy Cafe, crafted a fantastic menu for Board members in attendance. Past Presidents Ricky and Mark also joined as observers.
