March 21-23 marked one of the busiest time of the year for our Club. We hosted our 38th Anniversary Dinner on March 22, and received dozens of sister club visitors from Malaysia and Taiwan. On March 21, after picking up our guests from the airport, we had a sumptuous lunch at The Fullerton Hotel. In the evening, we went on a joyous tram ride followed by a fantastic Cantonese dinner. On March 22, some of us went on a boat ride and seafood lunch, while others stayed put and got busy shopping. In the evening, we hosted our Club’s 38th Anniversary Dinner, featuring Past President Ricky and Rotarian Ka Man as MC. We also had the privilege of inducting our newest member, Joanna Lai, with Governor Nigel Lo, Past District Governor Eric Chak (District Membership Committee Chair) and Charter President Patrick in attendance. Her classification is Legal. On March 23, some of us hiked up the south side, and made a detour to the 10-storey mural unveiled by Rotary Club of Hong Kong South back in December. On February 23, our Club celebrated Rotary’s birthday by participating in District Bowling Tournament x Blind Bowling. Honorary Member Vivien was the event’s Guest of Honor, while our Club sent the largest contingent of Rotarians, Rotaractors and Interactors, with 5 bowling lanes total.
On January 24, Past President Grace, Past President Mark, Immediate Past President Jason, and Rotarian Ka Man together with a dozen Interactors from the Interact Club of King’s College attended Hong Chi Morninglight School’s Lunar New Year Gathering. Interactors performed lion dance, explained the spirit of Lunar New Year, and managed games booths. Rotarians sang a song celebrating the Lunar New Year during a full day of fun and inclusivity.
On November 29, Past President Grace and Rotarian Ka Man attended the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of Ho Fung College, which is home to our Club’s first Interact Club. There, they met two Rotarians: Immediate Past President Tony Leung of Rotary Club of The HUB Hong Kong, a alumnus of Ho Fung, and Past President Alex Lau of Rotary Club of Central, a Board member of Ho Fung College.
On April 25, various Club members attended the Handover Ceremony of RCC HSU Patrick SC Poon Amity College.
This year we have injected a bit more new ideas to our celebration week, by taking all our members and sister clubs to Macau for a weekend retreat, authentic Portuguese cuisine, and a tour around Macau city. District Governor Andy and Jane, District Governor Elect Nigel and Flora and little Raphael, and some Rotarians from Macau have joined our banquet on March 23 too. We wish to thank our incredible Organizing Committee,including President Elect David, Past President Eddie, Past President Grace, Past President Dora, Past President Ricky, Past President Lily, Past President Mark, Past President Sam P, and Rotarian Ka Man, and our good friend Past President Elizabete Fong of Rotary Club of Macau for making it such an enjoyable get-together.
On February 20 and 27, on two consecutive Tuesdays, the Rotaract Club of HKU Lap Chee College International organized career workshops for their members. Our Past President Angela was the speaker for their second workshop, focusing on interview skills, while Past President Sam’s friend Bernard Wong of Korn Ferry shared with students the topic of CV and cover letter building. Also, President Jason, Past Presidents Grace, Sam and Mark, President Elect David, Rotarian Ka Man, Mr. Charles Poon and Ms. Diana Au-Yeung came to help as interviewers.
On February 25, President Jason and Rotarian Ka Man, and her lovely son Chun Yu attended the Blind Bowling Tournament which is an annual event for our Club and our Interactors. This year we have been joined by nearly 10 members from Interact Club of King’s College, and 4 members from the Rotaract Club of HKU Lap-Chee College International. And we got some really good bowlers from Lap-Chee, who has won individual champion and also 1st runner up for his team! Congratulations!
On January 27, 18 Interactors from the Interact Club of St. Clare’s Girls’ School were given CPR/AED training at St. John’s Ambulance. Rotarian Ka Man was there to support them.
On December 1, President Jason, Charter President Patrick, Past President Grace and Rotarian Ka Man visited Rotary Community Corps (“RCC”) HSU Patrick SC Poon Amity College for an informal fireside chat with RCC members and Master Dr Thomas Man. Past President Grace delivered a very informative introduction of Rotary, our Club as well as RCC. After the fireside chat, we had a cocktail session with the students with snack and drinks, and exchanged ideas on university lives and community services.
