38th Club Anniversary and Sister Club Reception

March 21-23 marked one of the busiest time of the year for our Club. We hosted our 38th Anniversary Dinner on March 22, and received dozens of sister club visitors from Malaysia and Taiwan. On March 21, after picking up our guests from the airport, we had a sumptuous lunch at The Fullerton Hotel. In the evening, we went on a joyous tram ride followed by a fantastic Cantonese dinner. On March 22, some of us went on a boat ride and seafood lunch, while others stayed put and got busy shopping. In the evening, we hosted our Club’s 38th Anniversary Dinner, featuring Past President Ricky and Rotarian Ka Man as MC. We also had the privilege of inducting our newest member, Joanna Lai, with Governor Nigel Lo, Past District Governor Eric Chak (District Membership Committee Chair) and Charter President Patrick in attendance. Her classification is Legal. On March 23, some of us hiked up the south side, and made a detour to the 10-storey mural unveiled by Rotary Club of Hong Kong South back in December. On November 19, President David brought Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick and Governor Nigel to Yuk Chi Resource Centre to witness the fruits of our Global Grant project. Stephanie and Nigel were on hand to see the renovation upgrades made available through the Global Grant.

Mental Health Awareness Day

On October 12, 7 Clubs of Area 3 — Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East, Rotary Club of Hong Kong South, Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northeast, our Club, Rotary Club of Happy Valley, Rotary Club of The HUB Hong Kong and Rotary Club of Uplift Actions Hong Kong co-organized Mental Health Awareness Day, an all-day event aiming to increase mental health awareness in the community. The day was filled with sharing sessions and workshops. Deep appreciation goes to President Josephine Mak and Rotary Club of Uplift Actions Hong Kong for taking a lead in making this event a great success.

Club meeting — Assistant Governor’s Visit

On August 22, Assistant Governor visited our Club. As such, Past President Mark, as Assistant Governor, conveniently switched his usual Club Secretary seat on the left of President David to one on President David’s right — the speaker seat. Past President Mark shared with the Club Rotary International President Stephanie Urchick’s priorities for this Rotary Year, Governor Nigel’s priorities for this Rotary Year, the meaning of Rotary International’s theme – “Magic of Rotary”, and things to prepare prior to Governor’s visit, in September.

Hong Kong Harbour’s 37th Anniversary Celebration

This year we have injected a bit more new ideas to our celebration week, by taking all our members and sister clubs to Macau for a weekend retreat, authentic Portuguese cuisine, and a tour around Macau city. District Governor Andy and Jane, District Governor Elect Nigel and Flora and little Raphael, and some Rotarians from Macau have joined our banquet on March 23 too. We wish to thank our incredible Organizing Committee,including President Elect David, Past President Eddie, Past President Grace, Past President Dora, Past President Ricky, Past President Lily, Past President Mark, Past President Sam P, and Rotarian Ka Man, and our good friend Past President Elizabete Fong of Rotary Club of Macau for making it such an enjoyable get-together.

Anniversary Dinner

A relaxing and fun-filled 36th Club Anniversary party was successfully held at Regala Skycity Hotel on March 25, 2023. The party was attended by over 65 Club membersand guests. District Governor Norman Lee, District Governor Elect Andy Li, District Governor Nominee Nigel Lo, District Officers, and 20 members from our three sister clubs — Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Pudu. The highlights of event were the sister-club signing ceremony with all three sister clubs to continue our partnership to do GOOD for the community; new memberinduction for Rotarian Ka Man Wong; the pinning of new Paul Harris Fellows and multi-Paul Harris Fellows for President Eliza Ning, Past President Grace Yen, Past President Eddie Leung, Past President Webster Ng and Rotary Ann Coco. What’s more? A party of 35 Rotarians and family members joined the Lantau tour on nextday which further fostered bonding among all. Last but not least, we thank our President Elect Jason Ling for his great leadership of the dinner, and we are looking forward to our next anniversary celebration with many more Club members and friends!!

Club Installation

Club Installation was held at Regal Hong Kong Hotel on July 14. It was a hybrid affair, with Rotarians attending both a physical lunch and a virtual broadcast via Zoom. During the installation, the presidential sash was passed from Immediate Past President Sam to President Eliza, with Immediate Past District Governor Keith and District Governor Norman presiding over the ceremony. Many Rotarians, families and friends also attended the virtual broadcast, including Past District Governor Peter Pang, District Governor Elect Andy Li, District Governor Nominee Nigel Lo, Assistant Governor Brian Ho, representatives from our service partners, representatives from our Interact and Rotaract Clubs, invited guests and friends of our Club, and our esteemed sister club friends from Rotary Club of Pudu, Rotary Club of Taoyuan Southeast and Rotary Club of Taipei Mingmen. Congratulations to President Eliza, and enjoy a splendid year as Immediate Past President, Sam!
