President Eliza and President Elect Jason attended the District Incorporation CommitteeConsultation Session with some 55 Rotarians attended. The Committee Chair Past District Governor Wilson explained why we needed to change the current structures and lots of questions from the floor, particularly those with legal and company secretary background Rotarians.
President Elect Jason hit the bell with the gavel first time on behalf of President Eliza as she was on sick leave. This was also the first Club Assembly hosted by President Elect Jason too. During the meeting, Past President Samuel updated the on-going and planned community service projects. Immediate Past President Sam suggested to form a committee to discuss and handle the Club Constitution and By-laws. He also invited members who liked to join by registering with him. Past President Kay kindly volunteered to join the committee too. Past President Mark, as Preserve Planet Earth Chair, promoted the Rotary Carbon Reduction and Ecology Summit and the Rotary Carbon Reduction and Ecological Conservation Video Competition. He also encouraged members to suggest whatever initiatives our club could consider adopting for our on-going club operation. The Club Jacket proposal brought up by some board members was discussed with members showing diverse opinions from club images, sense of belongings, environmental consideration, and abundance of similar clothing. President Elect Jason was tasked to conduct a simple survey on this matter with all members. On the 2023-24 board composition, President Elect Jason would be happy to receive nomination (and self- nominations) for any board position.…
Rotaract Club of HKU Lap-Chee College International conducted its Installation Ceremony 2022-23 on September 21. Congratulations to President Thomas! The ceremony started with the Rotaract Song, followed by our Charter President Patrick’s speech. District Rotaract Chair Henry Wong, District Rotaract Representative Wayne, and Professor MF also presented their speech before the pinning ceremony. President Elect Jason was President Eliza’s representative during the Ceremony. President Thomas then gave a presentation on the past events in 2021/22 and the year plan for 2022/23. After the ceremony, some of them went out for a fellowship dinner.
President Eliza joined President Rico Fung of Rotary Club of Hong Kong Island East and other Island East Club members for a fellowship and a trial service helping SoCo (⾹港社區組織協會) to distribute Mid-Autumn goodies bags and supermarket cash coupons to the partitions apartments and cage homes families in Sham Shui Po. Deputy Assistant Governors Waiyi Tang and Betty Chiu joined the team as well. The Supermarket Cash coupon (9900 HKD in total) was donated by our mother club. Some attendees went to the Humanity in COVID exhibition – Photo exhibition and Installation art of grassroots life under the pandemic which was few blocks away from the SoCo Shum Shui Po Office. Service project started at 8.30 p.m. and finished by 10.15 p.m.
On September 4, President Eliza attended Rotary x SoCo Services Thanksgiving Night for Rotary COVID Soldiers at Haw Par Mansion. It was a service project participated by most of the clubs in Area 3. Our Club will be joining this Rotary Year to distributing goodies bags to individuals living in cage homes, partitions apartments, bed space and other unpalatable homes families. The activity is organized by Society for CommunityOrganization (SoCo).
President Eliza and Past President Webster (Membership Director) attended the District Membership Seminar, which was a very informative and inspiring one. The Seminar focuses on the “Six Rockets” to grow our membership: Readmission Rotarians, Rotaract Club, Corporate members, Chambers of Commerce and Toastmasters, Satellite Clubs and Rotary Alumni.
President Eliza and Past President WT attended the Rotary Behind Imagination Concert at Youth Square Y – Platform at Chai Wan. This event was co-organized by Rotary Club of Abacus HK, Rotary Club of Metropolitan Hong Kong and Rotary Club of New Territories. All surplus funds are donated to The Rotary Foundation for community services use.
In the 3rd regular meeting of the Rotary Year, our club invited our friends from the Rotaract Club of HKU Lap-Chee College International (“RAC HKU LCCI”) to be our speakers. President Thomas, Andrea Komguep Leoue (International Service), Subaita Mahadia (External Vice President) and Crystal Lee (Club Advisor) joined our meeting. Charter President Patrick brought his grandson, Derek, as his guest. After singing the Rotary Song, President Eliza invited Immediate Past President Sam to pin Rotarian Tony. Previously, Rotarian Tony was inducted during a Zoom meeting on January 13, 2022. We then sang “Happy Birthday” to Past President Samuel Chung, whose birthday was on August 11. The speaker program included two parts: President Thomas’ Year Plan and Rotaractor Andrea’s talk “From Paris to Hong Kong.” President Thomas began by reviewing a past activities. Rotaractors in December 2021 conducted a Christmas service day and in April 2022 there was the Get Creative! Handcraft workshop, both programs focused on interacting with ethnic minorities children. In April 2022, Rotaractors had a vocational talk about trending technology and Blockchain. Miss Ip of Home Care for Girls texted President Elect Jason on July 15, 2022 requesting about 100-200 RAT kits for their girls to use in September when school term starts. We, being people of action, searched around and Past President Webster, as the director of Accountancy Caring Alliance was so kind to offer some free RAT kits to fill the need. Six days later, President Eliza, Past President Samuel, Past President Webster and Past President Grace delivered 200 RAT kits to Home Care for Girls promptly while President Elect Jason helped to collect the RAT from ACA office and Past President Samuel acted as delivery driver. What a team effort!
Charter President Patrick as the Gold sponsor for the HK Anti-Cancer Society Charity Golf Tournament invited some of our Club members to the golf day. From the Club, we have President Eliza, Past President MK and Charter President Patrick’s wife, Wendy attended. Ex-club member Charles Wong and Past President Grace’s sister, Joyce also joined the fun. Joyce, the super golfer, won the Ladies’ Longest Drive and Gross of the Day.
