Club meeting — HK Real Estate Market’s Transformation

Regular Club meeting was held on October 13. We welcomed back President Eliza, whoreturned after taking some time off recovering from a medical condition. We also welcomed Past President Mark’s son, Wally, who was enjoying his term break and managed to join our meeting and say hi to all the Harbour aunties and uncles. Members took turns to give activity reports from the past weeks, including one adventurous trip to Lai Chi Wo (荔枝窩). Members thanked Past President Webster for the arrangements. President Elect Jason reported that President Eliza and himself attended District Incorporation Committee’s Consultation Session regarding reorganization of District’s legal entities. President Elect Jason further encouraged members to sign up for End Polio Walk, to be held on October 22. Past President Mark, our Club’s Preserve Planet Earth Chair, also encouraged members to sign up for District’s Carbon Reduction and Ecology Summit (October 30) as well as Mangrove Sapling Plantation and EcologicalConservation Tour (November 5). Ms. Sandia Lau, Director of Centaline Property Agency, was our speaker. She talked about Hong Kong real estate market’s transformation during the pandemic. Club Constitution and Bylaws Review

Immediate Past President Sam kicked off the first meeting on our Club Constitution and Bylaws Review. President Eliza, President Elect Jason and Past President Grace attended. Hardworking Immediate Past President Sam did the first cut and was setting some specific questions for the team (including Charter President Patrick, Past District Governor Belinda and Past President Kay as well) before the next meeting.

Lai Chi Wo Day Tour

Thanks to Professor Danny Lam, Director, Policy for Sustainability Lab, HKU arranged this amazing VIP tour to our club members visiting the Lai Chi Wo, a 300-odd-year-old village situated in the north-eastern corner of the territory. It was one of the largest remaining traditional Hakka villages in Hong Kong. While the registrations from club members wereoverwhelmingly high that we arranged two separate tours. This was the first tour with 14 members and families of Rotary Club of HK Harbour took the comfortable coach from Admiralty / Shatin to Sha Tau Kok then the luxury water taxi from Sha Tau Kok to Lai Chi Wo. The full day guided tour included a visit and walk around the village, followed by traditional Hakka lunch at one of the villager’s house. The group then visited the outdoor eco-farm and had a chance to taste the locally produced Arabica coffee. The next lucky tour would pay the visit on 6 Nov 2022 (Sunday).

Conference on the Future Hong Kong Economy

Our Club Member Rotarian Heiwai, Victor and William Fung Professor in Economics and Director of the Asia Global Institute, attended the “Conference on the Future Hong Kong Economy”, organized by HKU Business School and co-organized by the Hong KongInstitute of Economic and Business Strategy, Institute of Digital Economy andInnovation, and Asia Global Institute. He was a panelist in two sessions – Hong Kong’s new economy and The Blueprint to prosperity: Hong Kong’s overall economic strategies during this event. Separately, on October 6, 2022, Rotarian Heiwai was on air at the NOW TV giving his views the Hong Kong Economy Outlook and Talent Policy. Congratulations Rotarian Heiwai!

President Eliza and President Elect Jason attended the District Incorporation CommitteeConsultation Session with some 55 Rotarians attended. The Committee Chair Past District Governor Wilson explained why we needed to change the current structures and lots of questions from the floor, particularly those with legal and company secretary background Rotarians.

Club meeting — Club Assembly

President Elect Jason hit the bell with the gavel first time on behalf of President Eliza as she was on sick leave. This was also the first Club Assembly hosted by President Elect Jason too. During the meeting, Past President Samuel updated the on-going and planned community service projects. Immediate Past President Sam suggested to form a committee to discuss and handle the Club Constitution and By-laws. He also invited members who liked to join by registering with him. Past President Kay kindly volunteered to join the committee too. Past President Mark, as Preserve Planet Earth Chair, promoted the Rotary Carbon Reduction and Ecology Summit and the Rotary Carbon Reduction and Ecological Conservation Video Competition. He also encouraged members to suggest whatever initiatives our club could consider adopting for our on-going club operation. The Club Jacket proposal brought up by some board members was discussed with members showing diverse opinions from club images, sense of belongings, environmental consideration, and abundance of similar clothing. President Elect Jason was tasked to conduct a simple survey on this matter with all members. On the 2023-24 board composition, President Elect Jason would be happy to receive nomination (and self- nominations) for any board position.…

Rotaract Club Installation Ceremony

Rotaract Club of HKU Lap-Chee College International conducted its Installation Ceremony 2022-23 on September 21. Congratulations to President Thomas! The ceremony started with the Rotaract Song, followed by our Charter President Patrick’s speech. District Rotaract Chair Henry Wong, District Rotaract Representative Wayne, and Professor MF also presented their speech before the pinning ceremony. President Elect Jason was President Eliza’s representative during the Ceremony. President Thomas then gave a presentation on the past events in 2021/22 and the year plan for 2022/23. After the ceremony, some of them went out for a fellowship dinner.

Fun Day in Yuen Long

Rotaractors had a great time touring a local wet market in Yuen Long and then enjoying an afternoon and evening of great fun and food at Past President Peter’s place. Past President Grace, Past President Ka Hing, Flora and Matz also attended. 6 Rotaractors and 2 Tutors from our Rotaract Club were present.
